Among the road races emerging across Vietnam, HDBank Green Marathon 2026 takes a different route: no elite athletes, no promise of national records. Its appeal lies in an AIMS-certified course through Can Gio's mangrove forest, where runners negotiate nature more than their race clocks. Organizers said the race is expected to be held in September 2026 in Can Gio district, Ho Chi Minh City. The fifth season includes 5km, 10km, half marathon 21km, and marathon 42km, plus family, children, and team categories. HDBank organizes it with Unique Company and Ho Chi Minh City Athletics Federation, under the guidance of the city's Department of Culture and Sports. AIMS certification ensures the measured distances comply with international standards. It does not turn the event into a professional race, but it lowers technical risk and builds trust among community runners. For many recreational athletes, a certified course is more meaningful than bold marketing language because their finish times can be compared with other races. The real story is not how many runners finish under three hours; it is how the course runs through a UNESCO-recognized world biosphere reserve. Mangrove forests, rivers, and coastal segments offer rare scenery. But soft sand, roots, and humidity can disrupt pacing. For inexperienced runners, it is a practical lesson in effort management; for organizers, it is a safety challenge involving water stations, medical response, and tidal changes. HDBank's integration of Green Marathon online into its digital banking ecosystem creates a year-round platform. Participants can train, track data, and stay connected beyond race day. Vietnam's grassroots running scene remains event-heavy and data-poor, making this a meaningful change. The event's environmental commitment is also central. More than 2,000 trees have been planted in previous editions, along with beach cleanups. These are verifiable actions, not just poster slogans. Runners get a tangible sense of contribution, which differs from ordinary sport consumption. No star entries have been announced, so there is no record-chasing narrative to sell. That may be the event's strength: it does not borrow elite standards to justify a community race. The communications focus is on experience, environment, and digital engagement. From a market perspective, Can Gio could become a marathon tourism destination if quality and safety are maintained. A regular annual race in the district can attract runners from outside Ho Chi Minh City, encourage weekend stays, and benefit local accommodation and transport services. Not belonging to Olympic qualifying or national championship circuits does not diminish the event. It frees participants from performance pressure. For a community race, success should be measured by how many people keep training, how many families run together, and how many trees are planted.
