Vinícius Júnior Receives Hefty Suspension, Will Miss El Clásico

Real Madrid forward Vinícius Júnior has been handed a four-match suspension following a controversial red card in last weekend's match against Villarreal. According to sources, the Brazilian star will miss four La Liga fixtures, including the crucial El Clásico against FC Barcelona on 25 October. The incident began when Vinícius pulled the hair of Villarreal player Nathan Saliba during a challenge. The referee consulted VAR and detected the action. A subsequent Real Madrid goal, which would have made it 2-0, was disallowed. The referee then showed Vinícius a straight red card. Initial reports suggest the player reacted aggressively, approaching the referee closely and only being restrained by teammate Antonio Rüdiger. Manager José Mourinho was reportedly furious and refused to attend the post-match press conference, fearing his comments might get him into trouble. The ban is split into two parts: two matches for unsporting behaviour and two for his conduct toward the referee. This means Vinícius will miss fixtures against Sevilla on 18 October, Racing de Santander, Valencia, and notably the El Clásico against Barcelona. However, the suspension only applies domestically. Vinícius remains eligible to play in the Champions League, where Real Madrid continue their title defence. The match between Real Madrid and Villarreal ended 1-0 to the hosts, though the disallowed second goal sparked significant controversy. There has been no official confirmation from the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) or La Liga regarding the exact suspension details, nor is it clear whether Real Madrid will appeal. Vinícius and the club have yet to issue an official statement. The incident is drawing significant public attention, especially as it directly impacts the upcoming Clásico.
